An implant is a surgical procedure that places a titanium screw into the jaw bone. The screw will then act as a support or foundation for a replacement tooth or crown. To begin, the dentist will take full medical and dental history, including a full mouth x-ray (if it hasn’t already been done), which the dentist uses to identify the most appropriate site and angulation for insertion into the jawbone. Once the titanium post is inserted into the jaw, there will be a healing period, as the bone will integrate with the implant. Once healed, a crown is created and attached to the post.
